Webbers

Branding | 2023

Project Brief

Create a brand identity for an eco-conscious footwear company with sustainability at its core.

Process

Focusing on sustainable brands, eco-friendly footwear, and the issue of abandoned fishing nets, a slipper brand was created to repurpose these "ghost nets" for everyday consumers.

The vibrant colours and shapes of nets collected from beaches inspired the brand’s identity, with a colour palette and logo reflecting ocean waves and net patterns. Packaging was crocheted to resemble these repurposed nets, further emphasising the sustainability focus.

The vibrant colours and shapes of nets collected from beaches inspired the brand’s identity, with a colour palette and logo reflecting ocean waves and net patterns. Packaging was crocheted to resemble these repurposed nets, further emphasising the sustainability focus.

Challenges

Considerable effort went into selecting colours that aligned with the brand's identity, emphasising sustainability and comfort. Through extensive research and experimentation, a trip to the sea provided inspiration in the form of fishing nets, leading to a natural and striking colour scheme.

This journey also extended to capturing the slippers in a setting that highlighted their eco-friendly materials, comfort, and style, ultimately achieving a balance that reflected the brand's essence and engaged the audience effectively.

Outcome

Webbers, a slipper brand made from discarded fishing nets, was developed to provide comfort while actively protecting oceans and marine life.

This is evident across it's website and social media platforms, where engaging content showcases both the slippers and their eco-friendly message. The handmade packaging, designed to resemble discarded fishing nets, reinforced this message while offering customers a unique, tactile experience that deepened their connection to the brand’s values.

A fiction partnership with the National Trust launched a public initiative to clear discarded fishing nets from UK coastlines. Designated collection points encouraged community involvement, and the collected materials were repurposed to create both the packaging and slippers, closing the loop on waste. This initiative not only contributed to environmental conservation but also helped to create a strong sense of purpose around the brand, engaging customers in the ongoing mission to protect marine life.
