Time

Visualisation | 2023

Project Brief

To explore visual ways to express time.

Process

Photography was used to capture the gradual changes in environments over short periods of time. Photos, taken in rapid succession from fixed locations, documented the movement of people, vehicles, and nature within the same frame. This approach turned everyday walks into opportunities to explore how time subtly shapes the world.

To make the project more engaging, the photos were used to create a physical exhibition. Printed on acetate and hung in sequence, the images created a layered effect that allowed viewers to walk through and experience the passage of time. Timestamps above each photo highlighted the exact moments captured, adding context to the visual story.

Challenges

Balancing small changes in the photos with the need to keep the sequence engaging was a key challenge. Each image had to clearly convey the passage of time without feeling repetitive.

Creating the exhibition also required careful planning—printing on acetate and aligning the layers to achieve the desired effect took multiple adjustments. Despite these hurdles, the end result successfully captured time’s quiet but ever-present influence in a compelling visual story.

Outcome

The final exhibition offered a unique and immersive experience. Sequential images illustrated subtle but powerful shifts, such as a person walking past, a car moving through the frame, or trees swaying in the breeze. The layered display brought these moments to life, making the concept of time tangible and dynamic.

Visitors would be able to interact with the exhibit, experiencing the flow of time in a way that felt both visual and physical.
